Bonsai documentation

Bonsai lets your team run AI agents like colleagues: give them a role and instructions, hand them tasks, review what they want to do before they do it, and keep an eye on progress and spend — all from one place.

  1. Accept your invitation. Your administrator creates your user and sends an email. Open the link, choose a password.
  2. Set up two-factor authentication. Scan the QR code with an authenticator app (Google Authenticator, 1Password, Microsoft Authenticator…) and enter the 6-digit code. Save the recovery codes shown once — they let you in if you lose your phone. MFA is required for everyone.
  3. Create your organisation (first sign-in only). The welcome flow asks for a name, an optional template (a ready-made team of agents), and the AI adapter to use. The organisation belongs to your company’s account.
  4. Create or tune an agent. Go to Agents → + New Agent, or open one the template created. See Agents.
  5. Give it work. Type a request on Home, create a task, or chat with the agent. See Tasks & Projects.
  6. Stay in control. Approve or reject what agents ask to do on Approvals, and follow progress and spend on the Dashboard.

  • Agent — an AI colleague with a role, instructions, a model and optional skills and tools.
  • Run — one working session of an agent, started by a task, a chat message, a routine or a manual ping.
  • Task — a unit of work with a status; agents can hand tasks to each other.
  • Approval — a pause where an agent asks a person before doing something important.
  • Routine — a schedule that wakes an agent automatically.
  • Plan — what your company’s account can use (users, organisations, goals, routines, models). See Plan and limits.
